I am mortified that it's been so, so long since I've posted. All I can say is a) my laptop is on the fritz so Nick and I have been fighting over his, and b) ummmm, Christmas stuff kept me really hectic?
This is pretty much going to be a series of updates, and after this (undoubtedly long, rambling) post I promise to try to get on here waaaaay more often. And read all of your posts too (most of which I got caught up on this weekend, but I didn't actually get to the COMMENTING part so apologies!)
Update the first: I hate my laptop. (Sorry, laptop!) It's in the end stages of death by natural causes (old age) and it's a painful, painful thing to watch. The biggest issue until yesterday was that the port where the power cord plugs in was loose... to a point where the laptop didn't realize it was plugged in (and therefore didn't charge) unless I jammed the cord in as hard as possible, held it there for several minutes, and then draped the cord across my lap in a certain way and DID NOT MOVE A MILLIMETER THEREAFTER. Seriously, one cough and the thing would fall out. My battery is only good for about twenty minutes, so no power cord = not good. Christmas Eve I went to bed with the laptop off but fully charged. Christmas morning I woke up and pushed the power button on the laptop and the thing just screeched a long, shrill beeeeeeeeeeep at me and remained dark. wtf, people.
Yesterday the laptop (which Nick managed to coax into turning on) decided that it no longer recognizes its own wireless card. Sweet! The only way I can get it online now is to plug it directly into the router... which is in the bedroom. Last night we stretched the router as far as possible and managed to get it far enough that I can sit on the bed with the laptop. To keep me company, Nick brought his computer in there too and we spent the night watching movies in bed. Where I will now be spending all of my time until about January 16th...
when my BRAND NEW LAPTOP is scheduled to arrive!!! My parents came through and surprised me with a new one for Christmas, which was a huge shock because by the time they dropped that news, Nick and I had already opened a ton of gifts from them. SUPER generous. My mom said she knows I work hard and I do a lot on my own, and she wanted to help me out. It was so nice... I was really touched. My mom was disappointed that it didn't come in before Christmas, but she bought me one from the Dell Business line (which is what I wanted), and around the holidays the Home line gets the shipping priority. She also included a bunch of upgrades, which pushed the shipping back as it's not a stock item. I'm too excited to care that it's not in yet... In a few weeks it'll be like Christmas all over again! My birthday is the 27th, and my brother is planning to come home for that, so he's promised to pimp out the computer even further for me at that time (he's a little hacker genius). I can't wait.
Update the second: Christmas. Was fantastic. Nick gave me a beautiful new winter coat and Tiffany earrings and some books and a sweater and I'll stop there because I'm sure no one wants to read a list of What Kim Got For Christmas. I got him a new jacket as well, and some gloves to match, and I made him some chocolate covered pretzels. We got digital picture frames for our moms and uploaded a ton of pictures onto them (which also explains my absence here, come to think of it) and those were a big hit. Nick and I also received a bunch of restaurant gift certificates from various people, which was great because lately we rarely eat out because we're trying to save money. We saw all our family between Christmas Eve and Christmas, and then we literally spent the entire next day on the couch, which was wonderful. I read 4 books this weekend. And I slept late every single day.
And now I'm back at work and I'm soooo not ready. I needed another few days at least. AND I have to work this Friday, whixh is KILLING ME. Having Thursday off and then coming back to work on Friday just kills the long weekend momentum. On the upside, Nick and I are doing a romantic dinner for New Year's Eve and thanks to all our giftcards, we no longer have to pay for it.
And my vacation is currently 39 days away and counting. Thank the lord.
