FINALLY part of our renovations has gone smoothly and we have new cabinets! And I love them to pieces. AND their installation was supposed to take 2 days and instead took only 4 hours. Nick and I stopped by the condo on our lunch break to check on the progress, and as soon as we hit the parking lot I started feeling hopeful:
In case you're wondering, that truck is full of our old cabinets and counters. It's also empty of the NEW cabinets, which we figured could only be a good thing. When we got upstairs, the installation guys were already finished with the job and packing up to leave, and our gorgeous new cabinets were up! They even managed to get the order right (that's not me being a bitch, I promise, this was messed up more than once) and got us the cabinets that go all the way up to the ceiling and finish with crown moulding. In short, I couldn't be happier with them. I can't wait until the new countertops are in and the kitchen is officially finished (new appliances come this Saturday and then we will be painting). I took a few quick pictures of the cabinets, try to ignore the fact that we haven't got countertops (or paint on the walls) yet:
Also please ignore the fact that I couldn't be bothered to move my Coke cans/noodles/plate off the counter before taking a picture. I was a little frazzled tonight. Turns out it's actually kind of tough to cook without a stove OR a sink (that sink is just sitting there, it's getting hooked up tomorrow).
Focus instead on my lovely white cabinets and that funky, modern looking brushed nickel hardware. You can't really tell in this picture, but the knobs have big thumbprints in them... when you go to swing a door, your thumb naturally rests there which is pretty cool.
All in all, I think we were long overdue for a positive experience with the renovations, and we finally had one. Hopefully the counter installation will be just as stress-free... all the projects we have after that are very small in scale and shouldn't be too difficult. Also, the rest is stuff we'll be doing ourselves, so maybe now we can freeze all our credit cards in a big block of ice or something.
SIDE NOTE: What do you think the odds are that we will manage to paint the kitchen without getting paint on our new cabinets, counters, or appliances? Because I'm thinking brand new sparkling white cabinets + brand new stainless steel appliances + 2 impatient, not very skilled painters who got sick of these projects several projects ago = PROBABLY should have hired professional painters.
Pray for our new kitchen. I'm gonna totally freak if we mess it up now.
molly and haute.pocket - Thank you! It feels great to see it all finally coming together.
spleeness - The living room is sort of a Tiffany blue color (so my friend described it after seeing it, much to my delight), and the kitchen is going to be the same color but 2 shades darker, to complement the blue flecks in the counters we're having installed.

It looks beautiful! I can't wait to see the finished kitchen (as I am sure you can't either!).
