It's been somewhat of an adjustment for the cats, moving into our new place.
Well.
To be fair, I guess I should say the SIMBA is having some trouble adjusting. The instant he walked out of his carrier and saw wide open spaces (we hadn't had any furniture except our mattress moved in yet) he FREAKED. THE. HELL. OUT. Then he ran into the bedroom and tried to dive bomb under the bed - only to discover that he couldn't, because we havent bought a new bedframe yet so the mattress is just sitting on the floor - and he freaked some more. Literally, he ran around the condo shrieking "meow meow meow meowmeowmeow MEEEEEEOOOOWWWWW!!!" for ten or twenty excruciating minutes.
And then for the next three nights, as soon as we drifted off to sleep, the freaking out and crying would start anew, until I wanted to cry with frustration because I was so damn tired and NOTHING WOULD MAKE HIM STOP. Not comforting or scolding or threats of rotweilers. The furball was panicked and he couldn't be coaxed out of it.
Eventually he realized he could hide under the overhang from our duvet cover, and he calmed down a little. Later, he found a Comfort Zone that seemed to feel safe to him, and he hung out in there for several hours:
In contrast, this was Jasper, chillin' from Minute One:
Jasper is a roll-with-the-punches kinda guy. He adapts immediately to every situation. Nick and I actually came home a few times to find Jasper cuddling with Simba under the duvet cover. We like to think he picked up on Simba's Extreme Panic and took it upon himself to go comfort him.
Why yes, I do have a tendency to ascribe human thoughts and emotions to my animals. Your point?
Fortunately for my sanity, after a few Nights of Terror, Simba was relaxed enough to join Nick and I for Design Star:
He slept through the night without a peep and when I woke up the next morning he was still curled up on the bed.
I think he's gonna make it after all.
I feel your pain! I hate having sleep ripped away from me by animal chaos, I can totally relate. I could actually picture the orange one running around yowling in distress. Both cats are adorable.
